Couple of comments from the Pompey forum suggest they may be talking about a different player to the one we saw for the last two seasons?

"Exactly what we need a big commanding keeper in this league"
"Carson struggled............failed to dominate his 6 yard box many a time" (and Jones will?!)

Much as I liked Jones as a superb shot stopper (except when he threw the ball in the net!) no way did he dominate his 6 yard box, which was maybe why we had 8 back in the 6 yard box when defending corners?

We had all eleven back when Barker was in charge, that stopped when JG took over, then by the end of the season we returned to everybody back for corners. Not so easy for Jones to dominate the 6 yard box when its that crowded.

Interesting that he's the first (?) of the released players to get fixed up and he's gone down the pyramid.

Maybe shows JG isn't such a bad judge of player - thought Jones was one of those who was on the marginal list to be retained and could have easily been offered a new deal

Maybe him and JG had "informal" discussions and there was such a gap between what he was on and what we would offer in future that the offer was seen as pointless?

He might have gone down the pyramid, but he'd undoubtedly joining a bigger club. It's interesting though, I thought PJ was a good keeper, but if you look at his career trajectory, he seems to be going downhill (moved from Championship to League One, and now to League Two).

I think he's a good solid keeper, not too eccentric.

He is a decent keeper but if they are expecting somebody to dominate his box, then Jones isnt their man (imo)?

Yup, agreed. His communication with his back four was poor in all honesty.
