Peter Shilton played in a World Cup Semi Final at almost 41 you helmet!

I recall Shilton was still playing league football at 46 or 47?

As others have said, age is not such an issue for a Goalkeeper. We should watch him play and see how the season pans out before passing judgment. I'm sure JG knows how fit he is and what he can do.

For the record (and topically) the oldest player to collect a World Cup Winners medal was Italian goalkeeper (and Captain) Dino Zoff aged 40, 4 months and 13 days (OK, I looked the last 2 bits up Wink )

Seems a safe signing by JG. On our budget he can't really risk getting it wrong. We can't afford to take a punt on such a key position and end up with a rene gilmartin

I think it's worth mentioning that he went the right way for each of the penalties largely because the ball was already behind him before he'd moved.

However, that's not to say Jensen is too old.

A prime candidate for some alliteration:

"The Beast of Broadfield".

Look I hope Jensen is a super star for us . But it doesn't change the essential point 99 out of 100 goal keepers are way past their best at when they are well into their late 30s . Identifying five or six goalkeepers who played on to 40 and trying to suggest that proves goal keepers generally aren't finished at this age isn't really convincing.

As I say if he has a great season no one will be more pleased than me.

For once I'd go along with this post from Crawley69.

I'm underwhelmed but at the same time not surprised. We need to 'cut our cloth' and perhaps this is all we can afford. I take it he is second or third choice?

Welcome to Broadfield The Beast. Like all players that join us, I really, really want you to do well, as like all the other players I will give you plenty of time for that.

The only slight concern over signing Jensen is this comment from the Bury manager after his final game (a 16th clean sheet of the season):

“But I want a different profile of a keeper.

“Not someone who is better, someone who is different – someone who has been versed in playing it out from the back and passing it and who is compatible with my style of football.

“And that is what I will bring to the football club.”

Mind you Paul Jones very rarely passed it out either? Confused

Surely it's easier to coach someone passing to a left back than kicking accurately beyond the half way line. Jones tested the linesman as much as the opposing centre half

Can we not just have the clips, and ditch the music. It doesn't add anything!

He won't be the only goalkeeper we sign. I imagine the reason JG let Maddison go is he wants to bring in another keeper with some experience of League football, who will challenge Jensen for the number 1 jersey. If he'd wanted a kid to help Jensen warm up and sit on the bench all season, he'd have kept Madds.
Shearer can't get a game at Rotherham.....
