Well the manager doesn't pull any punches in his explanation. Seems is a message to a couple of others in that press release as well.

Any guess who the other three are.

One thing I don't get is how paying up the contract in full frees money up..?

Maybe they've agreed to reach a compromise on the amount upfront?

Does it say it was paid up in full?

But surely Charlie is the winner, he has had his wages paid up for the remainder of the season. Now if he was to find a club tomorrow, he will be on double wages. Or is there a clause that if he finds a club, he has to refund his wages to us? I doubt it though.

Well, it says the contract was 'paid up' - doesn't that mean in full, otherwise it would be referred to as compensation or similar, wouldn't it?

That confused me too as to how it frees up money - unless it has only been partially paid.

Very blunt interview from RB - I think Wassmer has potential but he clearly wasn't going to play this season and was going to be off when his contract expired at the end of the season.

My guess would be he has received less than the full amount. Plus if he finds another club it's hard to believe it will be above the Conference with lower wages.

However we should't overlook that he did a good job in our Conference winning season. Good luck to him.

I would like to wish Charlie all the best and hope he finds a new club soon. He played an important part in our 2 promotions and scored some good goals. Probably not good enough for league 1 at the moment but with regular games he should improve.
I would not expect him to join Rotherham though Sad

I am pleased that Richie is able to make these tough decisions.

Now we must wait for RR&R reaction.

Aside from freeing up any wages he did also say it frees a place in the squad, maybe there is a way of paying him off that doesnt impact on Fair Play Rules and gives us some leeway to make another signing without breaching our limit?

I agree it does look that way. We are now saving on 6 months wages

I doubt he's received the full amount. I'm sure any settlement used a calculation of his potential earnings elsewhere for the rest of the season.

He'll do alright in the Conference, maybe even lower League 2. I guess it depends where he's based and if he wants to re-locate. AFCW and Aldershot fit the lower L2 profile that might work for him.

I wouldn't disagree with that. But beyond the conference he was too prone to making crucial mistakes. He will do well for a top 10 conference side.

My respect for RB has gone up ten fold with what he has said. Players who refuse to go on loan and aren't doing it in training have no right to be here. The players previously mentioned in this thread are also the ones I would let go.

The problem with having these players here and not playing/doing it, is a total waste of resources. We may just as well have members of the supporters club turning up every day. By releasing the aforementioned we could get in a couple of quality strikers that could make the difference between playoffs or not.
