Big away following or not the Chelmsford chairman is complaining in the press about the draw against a not very attractive side, also whingeing that they have only made £60,000 from the cup this season!!!
Some of his other words:
"From a financial point of view it was not a good draw for us," said Wallace. "They're not a long established league side. We've played them at our level in the recent past and it didn't do a lot to excite the normal fan."
Not sure why them playing at their level in recent past makes any difference, and 1300 fans seem fairly excited about the game as they have bought tickets at their end!
Also with our recent record in the Cup we are a lot more FA Cup friendly than some of the bigger clubs who couldnt care less.
He seemed to want Coventry away but although Chelmsford may have taken a few more there I am not sure it would have ignited a frenzy from the Coventry public (we played recently in the league in a 1/4 full stadium), and with higher staging costs they could have ended up earning less?

Really? Coldest I can see after 10am on Friday morning is zero at midnight and its then above freezing until midnight on Saturday/Sunday.
Though of course it's not unheard of for the beeb to be wrong... |

The Met Office is saying the same, nothing colder than zero. |

I think it was Aldershot last season where we cleared the pitch and the (then) groundsman said that as long as it didn't go below -10C we should be alright. Unfortunately I think it went to -12C!
I'll be very surprised if the game is in danger. |

Why? |
The question is really : Why split support for 2 clubs anywhere?
As for Saturday- Big Essex fan base for ITFC is probably the reason
And -Is this not a CTFC policy: "Make Crawley Town your second club"
Cant help but notice, your username is slightly suspect with the 'Boleynboy' handle: Is there a smattering of West Ham in there somewhere?? |
Do not have to be Sherlock Holmes to work that one out, but I will you a quick explanation.
Born in Crawley to London parents(as were many others in the 70's),
West Ham were my league club and Crawley my non-league team(again like many others in the town).
Have followed both teams through thick and thin(my first Town game was an FA cup tie at Town Mead against Barnet who had Glen Hoddle's brother playing for them if i remember correctly)?
When Crawley were promoted to the conference at Welling(it was my flag the directors were holding when we invaded the pitch at the end) i through in my lot with Crawley and became a STH and have been ever since.
I know there are many regulars with very similiar stories to mine, and im surprised with the way ticket prices are going in the prem that we are not getting more, maybe we are?
Still not quite sure why you raised the subject in the first place?
As for your comment on Essex having a large Ipswich fan base, im not so sure, and even if it has why would they be bothered about coming to watch Chelmsford play us, especially as it seems the tickets have been sold without to much trouble to the Chelmsford fans, or is it Tractor Boys in disguise who have snapped them all up? |

I won't be here for this one, just hope we show some resemblance of being the league team.It will be embarrassing enough going out to the conference south side, but totally humiliating if our fans stand there in silence for 90minutes listening to the chelmsford supporters getting behind their team. |

Big deal, a few posters on a forum claiming they are coming(very complimentry they are too about our town,'bring a stab vest', please, like Ipswich is a haven of respectability)?
I work in Essex alot and all the fans I come across either support the Hammers(or another big London team), Colchester,Southend or Dagenham. Only ever met one Ipswich fan and he lived in the town but worked in Colchester.
Anyhow, if they are coming good luck to them, hope they have a good day out, just hope they avoid the 'knife wielding 11 year olds' on their way to the ground! |
