I've seen a rumour this evening that Steve Coppell has been lined up as a possible replacement should Dougie Freedman take the Bolton job.

I hope this isn't true, I think Coppell has been a positive influence since he arrived

It would be a good call for Palace but I'm not sure if going back is ever a good idea.

Also, I believe Coppell didn't want the Crawley job. He is semi retired and doesn't want the hassle of full time involvement in front line management....But then he gets offered the right role and away he goes.

Never go back, no money at Palace, back to the pressure.

Think he'll stay.

I was just about to ask if anyone here had heard the rumours. All a bit odd at Palace really - there seems to be no reason for DF to go unless he has not been offered a contract extension after the end of this year and this apparent lining up of Coppell is rather quick for it to have happened afterBolton got the go ahead to speak to DF. However as usual the moment things start going well something comes along to mess it all up.

As far as "never go back" is concerned - its a bit late for that - SC has already had 4 stints as our manager but I can't help think that is enough and I do not think he has the fire or drive to do it again. We will have to wait and see I suppose.

You said "However as usual the moment things start going well something comes along to mess it all up."
However, the glass half full perspective would be "whenever things aren't going so well, along comes something to improve it."

It's a bit like "there's a recession after a boom."
It's also true that "there's a boom after a recession."

Not sure if I'm explaining things very well but it is 4.45 AM Very Happy

Daily Mail it must be signed and sealed then!
It may happen but got the impression when he came to us that he didnt want the day to day grief of a managers role, unless he is going there as DOF?

Not exactly what it says Mr P...

Quote:
Palace owner Steve Parish is now considering a move for Coppell once Freedman's move has been ratified.

Sami Mokbel who wrote the story used to work on the Croydon Advertiser and so may have connenctions at the club (he certainly likes to think he has). The rumour is that If it happens it is likely to be a DoF role rather than manager. I can't help but see it as not what we want but hae a horrible feeling that the board and DF are in some kind of stand off with neither willing to give way and he will go - if that happens then they may well want to appease the fans by at least making a very strenuous effort to collar Coppell.
