I thought the football we played was good, with hardly any 'hoofing' and we worked it out well. To put in in perspective, a number of Brighton players cost more individually than our whole budget!

Number 11 (Roberts?!) looked very lively and direct. It's clear there's a lot of pace in the team, so I can see us being better away from home if set up to counter attack.

Shame Collins missed his 1 on 1, he looked a bit hesitant in taking it which was worrying.

Work on crossing is needed, especially as I feel we can get in behind teams out wide - not sure we put in a single decent cross.

The left side of defence is a worry. Yorwerth is good when play is in front of him, but as soon as there is a ball over the top he looks very sluggish. McNerney seems the same. Garnett looks like he is the right build for the position, but didn't see him tested much.

Mid table is fine for me but we must play attractive football to get some of the missing fans back not the dire stuff of last season.

A bright first 20 minutes but without penetration. After that, BHA found their rhythm and then controlled the match to the finish.

Forwards looked lively and on a better day should score a couple or so. The midfield looked good for a change after seeing the problems we had last season.

However, the defence need to be looked at in minute detail. They were lacking right across the back four. Young was the better player but RB really isn't his natural position. McNerney and Yorworth are starting off as they finished last season and are copying Bradley. Sadly they were total cack. As for the left back, who ever he was, needs to be trained for another season as he really wasn't good enough for league 2.

I'm not overly worried as it was only a friendly, plenty of time left.

My daughter knows her pre-season football... she planned a trip for us both to the Oxted Beer Festival yesterday... great fun and a life affirming moment, as I arrived in the town and the first thing I saw was a young lad wearing a CTFC shirt...!

Did keep up with the match on twitter, a very unsatisfactory experience and a BHA win was not greeted well by the Palace brigade around me, but no hostility towards Crawley Town, just sympathy for those who never elected to attend a beer festival instead.

Point to make is that we seem to be accepted now as a bona fide football league club and sometimes you need to step away to realise that the club is actually making genuine progress in the wider world.

RR& R have you been attending preseason English classes because suddenly you English has improved, on par with jimmy Smiths improvement last season from his first.

Where do you think he should play then, Thad?

Not sure if I've mentioned that either JTG, but I'm thinking Eric Dier, Sergio Busquets, Claude Makelele.... er.... Cliff Cant, Paul Adam, Peter Fear... Surprised
