Not sure if this has been posted, however thought I would mention a book I got for my Birthday written by our old friend Ben Smith. Book title is ("Journeyman").

A very good read and a great insight into the dressing room at CTFC during the Steve Evans era!

Also gives a good insight what football is like in the lower leagues.

Just reading it myself, read the Crawley bit and then went back to the beginning. Apart from the obvious bits, I thought the most interesting snippet was when Alan Pardew told him what an exceptional player Peter Garland was and how he wasted his talent. It's particularly relevant to me because when Lee Fowler was here, I thought how similar he was in a number of ways to Peter Garland. Peter had that vision thing which Lee had and was a far more cultured player than his brother (Mark), I always remember the Forest Green punch up in our first season at the Broadfield involving Mark Garland.

Ditto - am just reading it as well, having received it as a birthday pressie recently. I'm trying to read it from the start but keep skipping forward to the Crawley bits! Smile Every page a winner with stories about Evo and Rayns!

That's exactly what I've been doing. I've resisted going straight to the Crawley chapter so I can work out what Ben Smith was about as a player; I learnt that he's a fairly good business man too.
A 'nearly made it' player beset with injuries and merry-go-round Managers who he fell in and out of favour with.
Good reading and probably typical of lower level footballers.
Dare I say it... a much better read than Sergio's book???

As a football fan, and specifically a Crawley fan, Ben's book is more in-depth therefore more interesting.
But I think Sergio's book probably appeals more to a wider audience, even possibly non-football fans.

Ben had an article in last week's The Big Issue.

Have to say, it was very well written.

Smudge is one of my favourite CTFC players of the last few years. I have his book at home waiting to be read. Should be good.

Just finished Smudgers book. It was really good and he goes even higher in my estimation and I always liked him as a player for us. Its a shame he thinks he did not fulfill his real potential but he still can consider it a successful career that many of us would envy. Good on ya Ben and good luck in the future

Just read his book.

Evans comes across so much worse than I expected!

Read it in one sitting, sort of skimmed 'til the Crawley bit, Evans really comes across as a bit mental really, self contradiction, barefaced lies. Good read, why no pictures of Ben playing for us though?
