Defensively they are strong. It's no wonder they have only conceded 18 goals in 23 games. Of those 18, 8 came in three games.

Which begs the question ........Why the hell did RB play Alexander up top on his own.He hasn't scored in open play since the 15thSeptember!!!!!

I guess that is the problem for us now as we move up the league finding a striker who can score regularly at this level is not easy and probably very expensive.

Look at Tubbs he was unbelievable here but barely finds the net or gets a game in this league.

One thing that is apparent is to be a successful striker either in champ 1 or above you either need sheer pace or a real physical presence (as well as skill).

The only thing have separated the two sides were two refereeing decisions and two excellent strikes. The were literally no other full-on chances for either side, both sides worked hard and cancelled each other out. We even played some good football in the second half but we had no cutting edge whatsoever. A draw wouldve been a fair result, I even heard some Sheffield United fans say exactly that. Really nice bunch.

But, Im encouraged. Weve played a lot worse than that and won games. Play like that against the lower half teams and we will win most of the games.

Positives: even without Davis and McFadzean I thought we defended really well as a unit. They never got a sniff in the last third.

Negatives: no cutting edge. The situation with Alexander is becoming a bit of a farce. In three months or so his return is a penalty against a non-league side. He supposed strength is winning headers and holding it up but he hasnt done that for quite a while. I like the bloke, hes committed and a good professional but I honestly think changing it, giving Akinde a chance, would be a good thing. How could it get any worse? I think the break will give Alexander a boost.

Im worried about some of the substitutions and decisions Barker makes. Were two-nil down at home and still weve one up top. Hes too conservative in his decisions at times. The moment we went two down it should have been 4-4-2 and at least having a go. The decision to take Bulman off instead of Akpan was ridiculous.

P. Jones 7 Harsh to blame him for the first. Overall coped really well in poor conditions.

Hunt 7 He got forward really well and was defensively sound. Has Barker told him not to use his long throw?

Sadler 7 Mr Consistent. Faultless defensively and was overlapping.

Walsh 7 So unlucky with the first free kick. For a young player he looks very confident.

Connelly 8 Hes really beginning to express himself at the back. Looking like an excellent signing.

Bulman 8 Tidies everything up in his assured style. Really warming to this season, a growing must for each game.

Simpson 6 Effort never a question but things just didnt seem to come off for him today.

Akpan 5 One of his erratic days. Again, effort never a question but seemed like a bull in a china shop.

Jones 7 A really committed performance today, encapsulated the last ditch challenge at the back. Im really beginning to warm to him. Nice touch.

Adams 7 Hes capable of beating men at will but his final ball was lacking today. He got a bit frustrating as he seemed to want to beat each man twice. Undoubtedly one of, if not the, most skilful players weve had at the club.

Alexander 5 Effort never a problem. Commitment never a problem. Professionalism never a problem. League One in 2012-13 is just a bridge too far for him. Great guy but we need something else. Just try something else!

Clarke 6 Looked like a player coming back from injury

Akinde N/A Didnt get a meaningful touch on the ball

Ajose N/A Didnt get a touch on the ball

Stinned that Jones was badly placed for both free kicks, although both were well taken. Jones only had one other save to make.

Apologies for the spelling but am on the bus home.

But despite all the changes he stuck doggedly to only 1 up front. Clarke was on the left, Ajose on the right and for a while Adams was playing in front of the midfield.

Many of the goals Tubbsy scored were putting away half chances, knock downs, rebounds etc. GA isn't that type of player as he is far too slow to get to the ball and there was no-one else in the danger area.

I am not sure I attended the same game as several of you. Sheffield were more confident and relaxed and were very dangerous on the break. Several times they were pacier in attack. Having said that the ref GAVE them 2 goals. Neither were free kicks. But they were superb strikes that were badly defended. Nevertheless we could have held out for a draw if their 12th man, Shortie Shorthaus, the ref, hadn't intervened.

Alexander runs his socks off for the club, but a one man attack is laughable. When will the powers that be realise that our 3ft 6 inch attackers cannot get the ball in the air when the opposition defenders are 8ft 10 inches tall. Hoofing will not work (and I mean that in the nicest possible way).

Having said the above, playing a club like Sheff Utd in a league game for a club like ours is unbelievable, and although I am disappointed, it just shows how far we have come that we did make a game of it.

That point has been missed a little bit today because of the worry of will the game go ahead and the disappointment of the defeat.

Think back three years ago and where we were.

I bet those that left on 72 minutes weren't there then.

Shame we lost , we played well early on and in the second half.

At the end of the day, their free kick specialist was awesome.

The first free kick was a bad decision by the ref. The second one was up the other end and I cannot tell if it was right or wrong.

Congratulations to the ground staff, they did a fantastic job, and the pitch was the best it's been for ages.

Just seen the goals on SSN.

The first was a real mess, the wall was badly lined up and totally disintegrated although to be fair he got it up and over pretty well and right in the corner.

The second was a cracker, no keeper would have kept that out, if Messi had scored it we would all be raving about it.

I haven't seen any replays but the second one looked about ten yards further out and cracking strike.

Both awards though were very, very soft especially the first one which was, well, pathetic.

RB said after the game, even if the free-kicks were doubtful the guy still had to put them away. And credit where it is due, he did.

The Sheffield fans I spoke to all said we played some very good football and recognised they had got some breaks but to be fair they also said they play most games that way.

I suspect Sheffield had some gears to move up into and felt they could contain us in the second half ...think they new they had the measure of us in defence especially with a second goal.

How many more time must we see Gary A fail to perform at this level before he is replaced? Has been, no longer good enough thanks for the past now please move aside!

Awful defending for the 1st goal not enough in the wall and players wated elsewhere we set ourselves up defensively yet again poorly, Their second shouldve told us to prepare bette rnore in the wall but that said it was a world class goal.

The better side won as you need strikers as well as defnders, midfielders and a keeper, we have no strikers and its increasingly noticeable our best in fact only chances created by midfielders of which Nicky was awful today need an entire week of practicing to try and cross a decent ball and thank you Akpan for bringing us Hope finiding space and driving on. Connolly desrved MOM just as no one really shone, we didnt us ethe ball well and as for RB's part shockingly bad even by his low standards, wait until er 5 mins to go then go 3 upfront! Shouldve mad the subs much earlier introducing Akinde and shouldve taken Gary A off much much earlier. As for taking Bullman off AWFUL DECISION he held it together for us so many times why take an influencial player off, this alone showed how poor a manager he is. The clue re your inability to manage skillfully was in the crowrd chanting of contender for MOm Dannie Bullman! None of your changes made an inpact largely becuase you failed yet again to make the changes timely when requried!

RM full of excuses again aabout the ref pitch everything basically but his inept managing. We were lucky to get 3 points last weel no idea when the next 3 are coming!

I dare say R,R & R will be on and all doom and gloom later. But at least the lads got into them in the second half and that has to be encouraging. Seeing Sheffield on top of the league empasises that.

Told ya....

Just for once - Try supporting the team instead of always slagging them off.

Shocked
