I don't think its the pitch that is causing the bother. Yes, better drainage would help!

But all the time the KAT is at the bottom of a hill and next to a river we are asking for trouble.

No chance. Just cycled past the stadium and there is a puddle 30 feet long and at least a foot deep by the bus stops. God only knows what the pitch looks like, but I'll guess awful.
